Promoting Civic Indigenous Literacy

We offer educational programming and professional development to promote civic Indigenous literacy – a form of topical knowledge and a framework that helps a person know the content, influence, and role of various Indigenous traditions in Canada and people’s role and responsibility in furthering reconciliation.

Our programming is designed from a consulting-based approach that:

  1. Firstly, assesses the needs of the client (be they students, educators, private or public sector staff, or community members) based on their context, sector and relevant “Calls to Action” topical needs.
  2. Secondly, we design the program, with ReconciliACTION team members and/or local Indigenous community representatives including but not limited to, Indigenous Elder, Knowledge Keeper, Mentor or Residential School Survivor.
  3. Thirdly, we deliver the program.

ReconciliACTION’s work is to promote civic literacy to promote social cohesion and understanding towards reconciliation. It responds to (and aims to prevent) the misunderstanding, discrimination, and hate towards Indigenous people based on their actual or perceived traditional affiliation in Canada. In doing so, it recognizes the demographic and social factors across Canada today.
